Let’s Change ‘What We Do’ to ‘How We Help’

I can feel all of the eye rolls that occur after one hears the term ‘elevator speech.’ But, I also know that we can all do a better job of communicating what we do when we meet new contacts. For example:

If I was to say, “Hi, my name is Rebecca Hnatowski and I’m a consultant.” 👀

Right. Crickets. That gives you zero context to who I am and what I do. The same goes for any of us who simply say our title and company name. It gives the person you are speaking to absolutely nothing to move the conversation forward.

I challenge you to work on crafting a new elevator speech that truly conveys what you do and how you help your clients, using the following as a guide:

My name is
NAME and I am a PRACTICE/TYPE OF LAW lawyer at FIRM NAME. I help my IDEAL CLIENT (see how to find your ICP in our last newsletter) HOW?.

Going through this exercise will help you build better connections with everyone you meet - and leave them with a better understanding of what you do so they could potentially refer - or even hire you one day.
